Text Free: Second Phone Number

A second phone number without a second phone is the offer from Text Free: Second Phone Number, made by Pinger, Inc. It gives users a working number for texting and calling over the internet, often used to keep work and personal life apart or to protect privacy.

After sign-up, the app provides a dialable US or Canadian number with its own area code. Calls and messages run over Wi-Fi or mobile data rather than a carrier plan, so a SIM plan is not required as long as there is an internet connection. Texting, calling and the number itself are free, with ads paying for the service. Users who want to remove the ads and unlock additional features can upgrade to the paid TextFree Plus tier. The developer states that it does not sell or share personal information with third parties and does not use message content to train AI models.

Text Free has 50,000,000+ installs and a 4.4 average from 590,801 ratings; 74% are five stars and 7% one star. It is ad-supported, and in-app purchases range from $1.99 to $99.99 per item. It was updated on 2026-09-15, needs Android 9 or newer and is rated Everyone. We list 4 versions; 13.25 is the latest at 56.7 MB.

It suits people who need a spare number for online listings, dating, side businesses or travel within the US and Canada. Anyone who dislikes ads should budget for the Plus upgrade, and users outside those two countries should check whether a local number is useful to them.
