Move to iOS

Switching from Android to an iPhone or iPad is the one job Apple's Move to iOS app does. It is a migration utility: install it on the old Android phone, pair it with the new Apple device during setup, and it copies your data across so you do not have to back everything up somewhere else first.

The process works over a direct wireless link. The new iPhone or iPad sets up a private Wi-Fi network and looks for the nearby Android device running the app; once you type in a security code shown on screen, the transfer begins and content lands in the matching places on iOS. Supported data includes contacts, message history, camera photos and videos, calendars, mail accounts, call logs, voice memos, apps and WhatsApp content. Apple advises keeping both devices close together and plugged into power until the copy finishes. Location permission is required to set up the Wi-Fi connection, while access to SMS, photos, notifications and contacts is optional and only needed to move those items.

Ratings are divided. The app averages 3.6 from about 223,000 ratings, with 57% five stars but a hefty 28% one star, which suggests transfers do not go smoothly for everyone. It has passed 100,000,000+ installs. It is free, with no ads and no in-app purchases. The last update was on 2025-05-19, it runs on Android 6.0 and later, and it is rated Everyone. Anyone moving to Apple hardware should try it during iPhone setup. People staying on Android have no reason to install it.
