Amazon Alexa is the companion app from Amazon Mobile LLC for Echo speakers and other Alexa-enabled devices. It is where those devices get set up and managed, and it also works as a remote for music, lists, smart home gear and communication between Echo units.

Setup is the first job: adding Alexa devices, then controlling or checking on compatible smart lights, locks and thermostats, whether you are at home or away. Routines automate several devices at once. For entertainment, the app links music services including Amazon Music, Spotify, Pandora, TuneIn and iHeartRadio, and speaker groups let the same music play across several compatible Echo devices. Day-to-day tools cover shopping and to-do lists, weather and news, timers and alarms. The home feed resumes recent lists, shopping and media, and Alexa suggests skills and features to try. Drop In turns compatible Echo devices into a two-way intercom, and calls or messages to supported Alexa devices come at no extra cost. Amazon says Alexa adapts to your voice and preferences over time.

It holds a 4.0 average from about 5.7 million ratings, with 65% five stars and 16% one star. It has passed 100,000,000+ installs. The app is free, with no ads or in-app purchases listed. Anyone with Echo hardware or an Alexa-based smart home needs it. Without compatible devices it offers little, and the size and Android 10 requirement may rule out older phones.
