SoundHound - Music Discovery

That nagging question of which song is playing in a café or car is the reason SoundHound - Music Discovery exists. SoundHound Inc.'s app listens to music nearby and names the track, then adds lyrics, charts and playback on top.

Identification is a one-button affair: tap the large orange button and the app reports the title, artist, album and lyrics. It can also recognise a tune that a user sings or hums. Every discovery goes into a personal history, and a Music Map shows where each song was heard and what people are listening to around the world. Lyrics scroll in real time so users can sing along. Songs can be played through a built-in YouTube player, and linking a Spotify account allows streaming and automatic playlist building, which needs a SoundHound account and a Spotify subscription. A voice mode starting with "Hey SoundHound" handles requests hands-free, and discoveries can be shared to social networks and synced across devices.

Feedback is mixed: 3.6 from about 915,000 ratings, with 55% five stars and 27% one star. Installs exceed 100,000,000+. The app is free with ads, and in-app purchases are modest at $0.99 to $5.99 per item. It was updated on 2026-07-14, needs Android 8.0 or newer, and is rated Teen.
