Players can also customise an avatar and join one of three teams. The whole thing is framed as an open-world multiplayer RPG played out through AR. Because progress is tied to real movement, how much there is to do depends partly on where a player lives and walks.

Reception is mixed despite the huge audience. The game has 500,000,000+ installs and averages 3.5 from more than 15.3 million ratings, with 51% five stars and a hefty 26% one star. It has no ads and uses in-app purchases ranging from $0.99 to $99.99 per item. It was updated on 2026-09-21, needs Android 9 or newer and is rated Everyone. It suits people who like an excuse to walk more and enjoy meeting other players for Raids. Anyone who plays mostly at home, or who has an older phone below Android 9, will get far less out of it.
