Built for phones with little memory and patchy data, Google Maps Go is the lightweight edition of Google Maps from Google LLC. It is a Progressive Web App that runs through Chrome, and it trims the full app down while keeping directions, traffic and place search.
Chrome must be installed for it to work; otherwise Google suggests using the Maps website in a browser. The developer says it takes up about a hundredth of the space of the full Maps app, and is designed to stay responsive on low-memory phones and unreliable networks. Users still get their location, real-time traffic and traffic maps, and step-by-step directions with a route preview for planning ahead. Route planning can mix two-wheelers, metro, buses, taxis, walking and ferries, and live public transport schedules cover metro, bus and train. Millions of places can be searched for addresses and phone numbers, and restaurants and businesses show reviews and food photos to help decide where to go. Favourite or frequent places can be saved for quick access.
